Letter from the Mayor
On behalf of the residents of the city of Troy, I want to welcome you to our website. In these pages you will find a variety of information about our fine city–from our humble beginnings as the first stagecoach stop from St. Louis to the thriving community of today.
Just 20 miles east of downtown St. Louis and conveniently located at the crossroads of I-55, I-70 and I-270, Troy is surrounded by open green spaces but provides the amenities and services often found only in larger towns. Troy has a multitude of housing options that include the character and charm of our older, more established neighborhoods, the family atmosphere of our well-planned new subdivisions and a centrally located assisted living center.
Triad Community Unit School District, a 2007 recipient of the Bright Star Award of Excellence, serves more than 3,600 area pre-K through 12th grade students. The district continues to meet and exceed state academic requirements and consistently ranks among the highest of similarly sized districts. It recently embarked on a $44 million construction and renovation project that will maintain Troy’s status as the best place to live and raise a family.
The 88-acre Tri-Township Park offers something for family members of all ages including recreational sports programs for area kids and an active and organized senior center. Our local library, the Tri-Township Library, boasts more than 33,000 books, audio books, videos and other resources. There are also a number of community organizations that sponsor annual events such as our homecoming and parade, Veteran’s Day parade, craft fairs, 4th of July fireworks and fall festival, just to name a few.
Now more than ever, I encourage you to visit and discover what more than 10,000 people already know --Troy is a great place to live, work and play.
Best Regards,
Tom Caraker, Sr. Mayor
Serving since 1984, Mayor since 1997
