Drug
Abuse Resistance Education,
is beginning it's sixteenth year for the Troy Police
department and the Triad School district. The D.A.R.E.
program is used to educate students about the harmful
effects of drugs, and to help students and teach them
how to resist the many different pressures they may
be faced with to experiment with Alcohol, Tobacco,
Marijuana and Inhalants.
The
program consists of ten,
forty five minute lessons, which focus on self esteem,
decision making skills, ways to say no, considering
consequences and managing stress. The students participate
in role playing, cooperative learning groups, and
have an opportunity to speak with high school students
about living a drug free life and succeeding in high
school without drugs.
The
D.A.R.E program averages
approximately 300 students a year from Marine, St.
Jacob and Troy schools. We have experienced tremendous
positive feedback and success from the students, their
parents and the Triad School district staff. The D.A.R.E.
program has made a lasting impact on the fifth and
sixth grade students in our community.
