Along
with the increase in construction within or just outside
the City of Troy, comes the loss of natural habitat
for beautiful animals such as these which were located
in town. There has been an increase of wild animals
that have moved into residential and commercial areas,
as well as school playgrounds and other highly populated
locations within the city. Because of their uniqueness
or beauty we might feel compelled to try and pet, handle,
or capture these animals. While these animals might
appear docile or harmless, there are many different
reasons not to interact or even approach them. Some
animals are quite sick and carry different diseases.
They might be in shock and could become unpredictably
aggressive. A wild animal like these would rather not
have contact with people so if you see that one has
migrated into town that should be a good indication
that the animal is stressed in some way.

If
you are having problems with wild animals, contact
the Community Service Officer (618/667-6741
ext. 555) or the Troy Police Department (618/667-6731)
and the appropriate steps will be taken to remove
these wild animals to a more appropriate location
or habitat.
If
you see an animal that you don’t believe
to have proper shelter from the weather or water
for them to drink, contact Community Service
Officer Scott Lawson or the Troy Police Department.
